Once again, it was quite an achievement. Let’s not forget that Lisa, the founder of Skatt Salons and Skattwalk, is still in her twenties. The 1 hour long production was achieved by mobilising all her Skatt staff for hair and make-up. Over 100 models were recruited (a lot of them were amateurs) for the parades. A number of designers/labels were chosen to complement the hair and make-up design. Yes, that’s right. Skattwalk isn’t about hair and make-up complementing fashion. It’s the other way around. Spectacular shows cannot be achieved with just one or the other. That’s why Skattwalk is so special and entertaining. I’ve seen some of the garments in various different shows last year but seeing them paired with totally different looks was quite exciting.

There were seven acts this year. Let’s start with the first one – Catwalk Creations by Chantelle and her crew. Fashion Design by none other than Anna Excell, one of my favourite graduate designers from 2009. Enjoy!

Just the other day, I was told by Skatt’s Lisa Grinceri that Skattwalk 2010 would be bigger than ever with over 100 models. I don’t know how they could beat last year’s show but I’ll just have to take her word for it. I mean, I wasn’t expecting Skattwalk until April but it’s happening only a week from now! You can imagine my excitement then. This is the biggest single fashion/style/makeup show in Western Australia.

My interest is not only with fantastical hair and makeup but also with fashion designers who got called into participate in Skattwalk 2010.

I’m quite well chuffed to admit that Style Discovery might have helped to showcase their work and attracted Lisa’s attention for this year’s designer selection.

It’s not surprising then we have Style Discovery’s favourites designers for this year’s Skattwalk dressing all new and emerging models. In the list of designers, we have none other than Alister Yiap, Anna Excell (2009 Challenger TAFE Graduate), Daniella Caputi (2009 Curtin Graduate), and Cassi streatfield for Cassi Lee Clothing.

First up, Andrea Wolf and other emerging designers are busy putting together applications for STYLEAID 2010 (Read STYLEAID 2009 coverage). It will be all happening as soon as weather cools down sometimes in August. Good luck, Andrea!

There’s another charity show for ToyBox International, The Gallery Fashion Show on Thursday, 21 January 2010 at Kidogo Arthouse (view map). We’ll see lots of local talent such as Bernice Sara (Resort wear by Bernice Lloyd), Leanne Lim and Destin by Claire Loneragan. It’s specially exciting because I haven’t seen Claire work since her graduation in 2008.

WAAPA – ECU Graduate Exhibition 2009

Finally, Edith Cowan University’s fashion graduates are putting a show together called Bare – ECU Contemporary Fashion Graduate Show on Saturday, 23 January 2010 at 6:30 in ECU Building 5 (2 Bradford St. Mt Lawley - view map). Tickets are on sale for a bargain price of $15. Get them at Bille and Rose and Libertine. If you know of any ECU graduates they’ll be quite happy to sell you tickets!!I didn’t know anything about this until Emma from Xpress contacted me to take photos for her. It is refreshing to know that ECU didn’t try to squeeze into the super hectic graduate show period between November and December. Whether it was intentional or not, I do not know. I’m just glad that January is not going to be boring after all.

Christine from Christobel is doing really well with her vintage print inspired designs. Today, I saw lots of folded books and framed prints which apparently sold like hotcakes at Bazaar 09. She always comes up with new ideas for each season. It’s really inspiring.

It really was quite hot and I was sweating like there was no tomorrow. While I was battling with the heat I met quite a few fashion graduates from this year. Anna Excell’s silk dresses were selling really well and by the time I got there (only an hour into the day) all her fave dresses were sold out! I’m really looking forward to her new collection at the Jailhouse Frock 2010. (see JF 2009 photos)

I don’t usually buy anything at street markets but I had to succumb to my desire to own something special today. I won’t tell you what I got. You’ll just have to wait to find out.

If you missed today’s Unwrapped do not despair (well at least you stayed in cool places I hope). It’s happening again on 6 March 2010 in St. James Mitchell park in South Perth. It’s only a stone throw away from where I live so I might just roll myself down there. haha
