With the support of Betts shoes I might just be able to resume my ‘Dressing Songy‘ series. Do you think we will have as much fun as before? Oh, you might be wondering what I’m on about. A few weeks ago (or days?) I showed you four pair of shoes. I asked you which pair I should pick. It was a little gift from Betts shoes. They know ‘shoe-holic’ when they see one I guess. The Style Discovery readers have spoken and I went for No2. Galaxy. I picked them up today and I’ll have to ask you now.. what should I wear with them? This was the question I asked in Dressing Songy. I pick shoes and you tell me what I should wear.

No2 chosen. No1 didn’t fit me well. I needed 7 1/2 but it didn’t come in half sizes.

On a different note, you must check out some wicked hair dos from the Sixteen Acts parade by Central TAFE. Here are some photos from backstage and the rehearsal.

I’ve been looking through my feed reader to see what I can post in C’est si belle as it’s been neglected for a while now. This particular photo isn’t something I’d have in my side blog but I instantly fell in love with it. There’s nothing much to it really. Pencil/A line skirt, cardigan, socks and a pair of brogues. Very Parisian I’d say.

Although I’m always out to see what’s in fashion and what’s coming up next it’s always comforting to know that I’m not a slave to current trends and we are living in the time when styles don’t have be driven by anyone but ourselves. If someone says otherwise I’d like to tell them (with all existing courage coujured up) to piss off.

This has been a short post. I’m having a lazy day. It’s Sunday after all. I might go out with my guy to see if we could find some nice whisky glasses. Yes, my love is a scotch whisky drinker. His favouriate is Laphroaig. You won’t see me sipping Laphroaig but you might catch me sipping some Margarita. It’s stinking hot after all.

Finally, I’m wrapping up the long over due Dressing Songy No.4 finale, Songy’s outfits. What I gathered after the virtual window shopping are mostly ‘dream’ pieces which I will have to collect over many years in similar colours and designs. Let’s face it. Most of us don’t have funds to have that kind of wardrobe. If I did I wouldn’t be here probably. Well, that’s a topic for another blog or post(s). I believe all those pieces are timeless and they will remain stylish beyond trends hence the ‘collecting over many years’.

My obsession with tulle started with a picture of Olga Kurylenko who appears in Quantum of Solace, the latest bond movie. Might I add that I wasn’t at all impressed with her character in the movie. Anyway, later on, I saw a student work at Transformation, High Street Collective which was loved by many of my readers. In case you don’t bother to click the link or just need a refresher, it was a short dress with some sweet applique on tulle. C’est Si belle also recently saw another tulle beauty which Carla really liked. If a gorgeous photographer living in Paris says she saved that image. That is a good enough endorsement in my book.

There is no reason why I cannot have a tulle piece I thought. Hang on though.. have I ever needed such a piece. This is where I have to think because all this time I have been a very practical shopper. Another issue I have is that I spent all my dough on a new lens and a heavy duty flash for my Nikon D50. Well, this is when my Yardage Fashion comes in handy. I thought Olga’s dress is easy enough to do with some tulle yardage. I did a brown number a few weeks back as part of Dressing Songy No 3. It turned out that I looked pretty dashing in brown. Now we are looking at some tulle and a pair of beige patent sandals.

Does it work? Skin tone velvet and gold ribbon make the ‘dress wannabe’ quite special. I think a strong contrast works as well. Looking at these photos (somehow they don’t look like me but what the heck) I think having a tulle skirt, not a full dress’ could be indeed practical. All I need are occasions where I could possibly sport such outfits.

I also found other beauties somewhat related to my beige numbers. Collette Dinnigan’s dress which I spotted in Caronline’s Absolutely Unique gave me an idea to seek out more of her creations. I also really like Armani’s beige ensemble. Delicious.

What made me really exciting when I was reading your comments on the shoes was the fact that skin tone shoes extend my legs. For that reason alone I need to get more of different style skin tone shoes. I’m thrilled to have spent my $15 AUD on that ‘suspicious’ beige sandals. Oh yeah! I only spent that much because I can be such a cheap ass.

Dressing Songy No.4 has been pushed to the bottom of my posting list for so long. I nearly forgot to finish. It’s really no one’s fault remembering the fashion show I covered and the party! So much is going on in Perth I almost have to say I love the place and I can barely keep up with all of the posting materials.

When I bought the beige patent sandals in question I was dubious about the usage. Well, by that I’m saying I was going against the golden rule of shopping ‘don’t buy unless you love it’. The downfall of that kind of shopping is that I never get out of my comfort zone hence no experimentation.

As usual, collective wisdom of my readers couldn’t be underestimated and you amazed me with more brilliant ideas. Here’s the long list of suggestions from Your Total Awesomeness.

Franco said…
I see this with a black dress maybe. Beige is tricky, not really white, not really brown.BUT i see it with a dress.

Couture Carrie said…
I love the “nude” look – another similarly hued item like a camel or skin-tone dress would be fab!

La Belette Rouge said…
Like CC, I like nude with nude. I also like it with brown and navy. I am a big patent fan. Love beige patent otherwise I feel like beige just looks blah on me.

Dapper Kid said…
I love the pale colour, I would go with medium to dark clothing, so biscuit browns and navy

Emily said…
one of my favorite color combinations is red with beige. i have some nude patent heels that i throw on with a red dress for a subtle, sexy statement.

The Clothes Horse said… Monochrome beige look? I just imagine a beige winter look of piled on layers…but it doesn’t really suit the shoes…I’m just cold as I type.

THE HOUSE OF STYLE said…
i like clothes horse idea. i will take it a step further… so lots of almost non colours(pastels perhaps)…think ecru, grey, mint etc loose garments. so start with a loose maxi dress in one of those colours then pair over it a loose cardi in another non colour type garment ,could be a loose cardi and so on dear. so make it a loose unstructured look with lots of yummy pastels and mild colours, mix different pastels together for a calm look. Think Jill sander and her muted palette.whatever you wear i know you will look fab!

Stompface said…
I actually wear a ridiculous amount of beigey colours (bags, shoes etc)
I think it looks really good with pale blues and greys.

Sarah-Lou said…
I would wear them with white men’s trousers, a skinny shirt and many many golden necklaces for a glamorous and retro style!

K.Line said…
Here’s my idea: Don’t figure out how to wear them. Send them to me!!
(These are FANTASTIC)
Oh, and they’d look great with navy opaque tights in fall or with a pleated dancing skirt (knee length, chiffon-y)

Agnes said…
OOOOOh, Season 4 of Dressing Songy, I’m so excited!!
I’d probably wear them with a faded pair of old jeans and a fancy sleeveless lace top and long necklaces… that’d be my first draft anyway.

Brigadeiro said…
Oh, I love nude shoes! T these are so simple & classic, gorgeous!
The beauty of ‘nude’ is that you can wear them with pretty much any colour (especially bold tones)! It’d look gorgeous with a patterned dress too! Something easy & flowy, or a shirt-dress (maybe even a bit of YSL’ish safari look with a patterned scarf at the waist for interest).

enc said…
I vote for contrast. Let the beige shoe extend your leg, much as it does for Angelina in that post on Savvy Mode’s blog. Contrast with black, brown, navy, mulberry, grey, purple, green, the list goes on and on.

AsianCajuns said…
Ooo lovely shoes. I have a pair of beige heels (non-patent) that I would wear in the summer as “nude” so that my legs look a bit longer. For winter I think an all-beige look or a chocolate-brown dress!
Let us know how it goes!
-h of candid cool said…
they’re a neutral color so they could go with virtually anything.
and true what enc says because of the skintone-ish color they extend your leg.

TheSundayBest said…
I am utterly useless at this. I really need a giant closet that I can pick things from…

Maz said…
Mmm… I would go street syle. With blue denim skinny jeans & a basic white tea. Tossled hair and a small tan cross-body bag with thin straps. Urban chic
Hmm I’ll wear them! I think shoes of different colors are more fun to wear:D
we wear things said…
oooh those are quite kute!! i’d say a nude slip type dress.. lacy even!

Lavender said…
I’d want a bright red dress to wear with these.

With all that in mind, I went virtual window shopping and here’s what I found. Hopefully, I will be your bitch and dress up for you to finish up this long delayed Dressing Songy No. 4 soon.

‘Dressing Songy‘ was devised so that you and I could have fun. You get to tell a girl what to wear – I assume that gives you a sense of satisfaction – and I get to play dressing up. But I realised there was more to it than just having fun. I actually get to try things that don’t usually appear in my weekly repertoire of my work and play attire with your guidance. It is less likely for me to make a bungle this way. It is no big deal being less stylish for some days but having your endorsement for particular outfits makes me smile in the morning when I get dressed. A little reminder of you and I’d be your bitch for a day!

Sara, for example, is on a self imposed shopping ban. She is exploring possibilities with her existing wardrobe and carefully selecting things for future purchases. As for me, I cannot bring myself to that kind of commitment. What ‘Dressing Songy’ gives me is a fool-proof clothes shopping strategy with your suggestions, practice runs and confirmation. I said as part of the rules that I wouldn’t go out and buy all new things. What I do get to do is buying things that are going to work 100% after each Dressing Songy series. It’s like having several stylists! Ain’t I lucky?

Yardage fashion is nothing new (as you’ve seen in the recent Vivienne Westwood’s collection) so when Matt from Imelda suggested a caftan I really wanted to try this. 2.5 m of brown fabric I picked up from a craft shop was used for this look. If you think this works I might consider taking up sewing which means dragging out my 20 yr old sewing machine from some dark corner of our house.

PS. I did my best to smile this time. Trust me, if you see the bigger versions you will see that I really tried!

Also, I would LOVE to dress like the sets I created. Again, back to my rules. I just can’t have everything I SEE, tragic.
