Urban drapey edgy look by Marisa Ebsworth
Self indulgence comes to my mind when I get to pick out designs I like to wear from graduate shows each year. Of course, garments are not readily available for purchase – come to think of it why not? – and not all work is wearable on the street.
When I saw Marisa’s work at the Show 2011 by Central Institute I had to see and touch her garments. I also wanted to find out more about the designer. I’ve done that once or twice before but this time I wanted to shoot properly with a whole crew – model, designer and makeup artist on location.
I didn’t know what to make of her when we first started chatting. It only took a few minutes to realise how reserved she was. I could only guess how weird it must have felt for her to have some stranger paying a lot of attention to her and her work.
It was amazing seeing all the details of her work. Soft jersey, muted colours, silk screen print, cotton silk, draping and biased closures and covered buttons. All very intricate yet modern and generous for the body.
No doubt, it would have been a valuable experience having this graduate collection completed. Following her own instinct more would be something she would take away from this collection according to her. Marisa Ebsworth is planning a big trip in 2012. With her American citizenship she could be seeking new adventures in the USA later next year. All sounds very exciting. I could only guess that she will be thoroughly inspired after her trip to New York and South America.
I asked Marisa if she would share her work as I was seriously coveting some of the garments. She said yes so perhaps for the first time I could get my hands on something from a graduate collection.
The shoot was rather pleasant. Everyone arrived on time. What I didn’t want to have was the shoot taking all day which I have seen when I have observed some other shoots. It started on time and we were all done and dusted an hour earlier than planned thanks to everyone doing their jobs in a very professional manner.
Another great thing from this experience was meeting Kristy from Scene Models. She started modelling five months ago. With her easy going and amazing personality I can only assume that she will be very successful. Could I get to see more of her in runway shows please – talking to you Aly and PFF project managers?
Obviously, I won’t look anything like Kristy if I were to wear the same dress but I’ll just have to make my own will I? That’s only if I could fit into it I suppose.
