Hatch – the launch
Walking through the deep blue coloured doors at Hatch led me to a quirky creative fashion space.
My high hopes were well warranted and didn’t get diminished when greeted with stylish, well appointed and, most of all, desirable garments and accessories. It was all the more special because all of them were by local designers – some more established than others.
The talent and quality was there nonetheless. Some names are dear to my heart as I’ve been following them since 2008. I first got to know Teagan Sewell, well known stylist and the creator of Sewellery, when she organised a show called Transformation for then called High Street Collective. The butcher and the crow has always captivated me since I first saw the work at Jailhouse frock and Architextile.

The interesting thing about Hatch is that it caters for a wide audience while keeping a consistent elegant yet edgy theme. The launch party night was a case in point. The shoppers ranged from people in their early twenties and well past. It wasn’t just for girls either. My favourite brand of the moment, Zsadar, takes up a sizeable spot for people like me who are not into girly stuff.

Not being part of companies with huge overhead means shoppers pay very reasonable prices for high quality products. I couldn’t believe the price tag when I picked up a silk cotton shirt with a funky dye by the Butcher and the Crow. It was $75 and with a special 10% discount for the night it was less than $70. It is now in my possession.
I am not much of a shopper these days – all my money goes into my photographic gear – but if I do shop you know where you’d find me.
I am sure you’d all know where Hatch is. In case you don’t just get to Hay Street Mall in the Perth CBD and walk into Carillon City. You can’t miss the big blue doors.
