STYLEAID 2010 – Arj Selvam

With much anticipation I got to see Arj Selvam’s work just before the StyleAID 2010 parade last Friday. When I stepped into backstage he was busy removing black lint from his soon to be pristine white shirt. Interestingly he remembered my name.. anyhoo after a quick hello and chit chat I ‘investigated’ his designs trying not to miss anything. It pays to see garments backstage to really find out the construction quality. His work as I suspected is sublime.

Do you see his name engraved in the shirt buttons? I’m totally sold on these buttons. It is pretty obvious to me that he is designing stuff that he wants to wear. There was a series of clean-line mens wear including the white cowboy (picked as one of six ‘WTF’ designs by NY Mag).

I quite liked what he was wearing that night. He also dressed Mark Reid from WA AIDS Council.

These are what I thought interesting on the runway. Mind you I wouldn’t mind having all his (including mens) as part of my wardrobe. Why? I like his tailoring. Arj Selvam is available in For-Tomorrow.
