ReFashion Week 3 – survival of the craziest

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Re-Fashion is the challenge my colleagues started three weeks ago. It seems like ages. While I was away for a couple of days shooting and getting a well deserved rest from STYLEAID 2010 there were three more ‘drop-outs’. Rather unexpected yet I can see that only crazy people can survive in this difficult competition. Look at these photos! They are going nuts.

Nah, not really. In order to spice up the mundane – stand there and let’s take a photo of your same ol’ outfit – the ladies decided to have a theme. Week 2 was all about jumping. Week 3 was having objects around the office. As I said before, girls have a jolly good time during the photo shoot which only lasts about 10 minutes – less now since there are less people still in the competition.

We hear various stories. Those still in the competition are saying how easy it is to get dressed in the morning. Others said it was pity that six garments sometimes can’t keep them warm enough. Here’s quite an interesting post from Men Don’t Get It blog on the Refashion Challenge Week 3.

ReFashion Recap : 6 Ladies Left!

The Linc ladies are three weeks into the ReFashion Challenge, although we had another two dropouts on Monday (who we suspect wanted to quit all along, but waited for someone else to quit first!).

When asked why the dropouts quit the challenge, one explained that she realised how many winter clothes were sitting in her wardrobe unworn – some of them still had tags on them! And with a growing pregnant belly (mini fashionista in the making), she wanted to make the most out of her outfits while she could still fit in them. We don’t really blame her!! As someone with a large wardrobe, we wondered how she’d done it for this long anyway!

The other dropout was injured in the same of fashion, after wearing a very chunky necklace in order to change her outfit, which pinched a nerve in her neck and caused her significant pain! After this incident, and after the first dropout bailed, she was relieved and overjoyed to quit. As a bit of a fashionista, she hated every minute of the challenge and welcomed variety back into her wardrobe with open arms. The only thing she misses (or maybe just ‘appreciated’) was the little amount of time it took her to get ready in the morning, but she’d swap time for fashion any day!

There now remains 6 ladies in the challenge, and after 3 weeks of recycling their 6 items they have become fairly confident in their ReFashion abilities, though that’s not to say they haven’t been met with some hurdles.

One of the girls chose her 6 items based on keeping warm, and with the recent 24 degree days she’s struggled to stay cool!

One of the other girls whose ‘fashion strategy’ was to have a specific dress for specific days (i.e. Monday dress, Tuesday dress etc), became embarrassed after realising her friends, who she sees after work every Friday, would have seen her wear the same dress for 3 weeks now! Her strategy was almost thrown, but she’s stuck to it.

There has only been one temper tantrum that we know of, with one of the girls screaming at her cupboard in frustration, and threatening to burn her clothes!

Despite all this, the girls that are left are determined to win. We’re actually considering upping the ante in order to find a clear winner, or perhaps opening it to a public vote.

Personally, I think the only reason they’re still in the competition (aside from the obvious cash winnings) is because they enjoy (perhaps a little too much) the daily photoshoot in Reception. It has become such a fun ritual, that even the dropouts all come to the photoshoot to watch!

Are you surprised that the girls have lasted this long? Do you think they’re doing a good job of “ReFashioning” so far?
