Me and Mr Martini or The Butcher and the Crow

Heck I don’t know what the deal is with these strange fashion label names. For the sake of simplicity, I dare to just call them Mr Martini and the Butcher. These two labels are the fruit of labour by two talented graduates from Challenger TAFE. Architextiles, Challenger TAFE 2009 Graduate show was opened by new labels the past graduates created and they also participated in this year’s Perth Fashion Festival’s Designer Collections.

Penny Dunn and Yasmin Jebb’s Me and Mr Martini‘s resort wear promises stylish summer holiday with boho and ethnic chic with colourful beads. I first saw their creations earlier this year at the Jailfrock show by Asthma Foundation. The new collection is more coherent and more of my cup of tea. I just need to find my self a suitable destination. I quite like the black sheer dress with turquoise beads. I can see myself wearing them in Abud in Bali***. How about that for a visualisation.

Elisha Quintal’s The butcher and the crow was also first introduced (to me) at the Jailshouse. Its campaign photograph was quite striking with its giant silk dress. The theme continued but it’s more controlled and refined. I love the deep and rich colours in this collection.

This was the first go at showing what was presented last night at Architextile – precursor to the actual graduation show. More to come soon. Have a great weekend, ya al’.

***for international readers.. for us Perthnites, Bali is not all that much of an exotic destination. It’s only a three hour flight from where we are and it’s closer than Sydney or Melbourne. More often than not it’s cheaper to have a holiday there than having one in Western Australia so it makes sense to have suitable resort labels.

P.S. As I continue to blog and take photos, I notice people lifting images from my website and use them without any acknowledgement. I don’t know whether I should be happy that people think my photos are good enough to ‘steal’. All I ask is linking back or credit as explained in Creative Commons license. Out of sheer frustration, I started adding giant watermarks in my images in Facebook and Flickr but I’m not angry enough to put that ugly mark in the photos for the blog. I know that I’m too naive to ask for common sense from people. Oh well, I guess I’ll just have to live with it…
