Challenger TAFE 2009 Architextile Vol3

This is it. The very last post on the Architextile. I'll do a quick post on the pre-show photos from Central TAFE's Sixteen Acts shortly. Now on to the collection. I quite like the texture of Mihirini's work. Grey and purple work well as well. I would have liked to see the flower shaped dress (what's the official name for that kind of shape? Is it called Empire??) on a not so skinny model to be honest.

Louise McMahon's collection was another exciting set in the show. She writes " This range is about derelict mansions of the last century. The ruins tell a tale of decadence lost long ago, that haunts our modern lives." Interesting huh?

Mallory's used tulle. I have a huge soft spot for tulle. I can't help myself.. you've seen what I've done with pieces of tulle without any sewing...I absolutely love the third dress.

I must say I like the change in the direction from black lace to the pastel peach and brown with slight sheen. Rebecca Potts' black ensemble was is great (which was shown at the Student Runway) but it was good to see that she didn't just dwell on that one... I could see why her inspiration came from the Louvre, Palace of Versaille and Notre Dame - Spring in France. I'm so there now.

Emma's Steel Feather Summer 09/10 collection is rather refreshing like sparkling wine. Emma writes in the intro to this collection "Combining elements of nature with man-made structures. The contrast of sharp angular lines and soft curves have been merged with the colour palette of nature's most beautiful bird - the peacock.

I hope you enjoyed the Architextile. I must mention I enjoy more when I read the conceptual explanation coming from designers. Granted not all can explain abstract thing in a coherent way or not all designers are cut out to be conceptual. I'm hoping to see more students taking a leap into the fashion industry. We've seen Me and Mr. Martini, the Butcher and the Crow, Little Gracie... all these were created by fairly new designers. We shall see who stands out.
