Myer’s Basement – Shopaholic

Posted by on Oct 2, 2009 in 2009, Perth Fashion Festival

About a month ago there was a fashion parade organised by Basement at Myer. It was a part of the Perth Fashion Festival 2009. Yes, I’m still talking about it. Sorry… It occurred to me that the concept of Basement isn’t anything new. I’ve seen it before I saw it in Perth. I cannot remember which department store it was in Paris. Could be Printemps or Lafayette. I don’t know whether one of them still has it but back in 2004 and 2005 I used to visit the ‘Basement’ style – a floor full of stuff for kids with money – in Paris and it was pretty new to me then.

It’s all about grabbing younger generations’ attention isn’t it? From memory, prices weren’t all that much lower when comparing with products on offer on other floors but in Myer’s Basement things are certainly cheaper..I find. I sometimes feel a little too old to shop there but I guess it’s all in my head.

The show was a huge fun although it wasn’t terribly well organised in terms of music. Instead of having a conventional ‘catwalk’ background music they invited Cassie Davis to sing and talk all the way through the show. Of course, there were breaks in between which provided awkward slience while models were walking down the catwalk. Nevertheless, it was the most popular show during the festival. The Fashion Central Marquis so full that even the media area was invaded by small kids. It was all good. After all, It was for general public.

As I always say, I love fashion parades although the models weren’t wearing anything earth shattering in this particular show. Looking at these pics I can now put names against faces finally for some models that is.

I have another pretty busy weekend planned. How about you? Apparently, there’s the second heat for the Diamond Model Award by Fashion TV at Onyx Bar tomorrow night. Maybe, I’ll be there tomorrow night.

Nice job, Songy! These looks remind me of what I see locally.
