Alister Yiap WA Designer Collection 2009

Nothing creates more drama than Malachi Alister Yiap’s collections. It was the dramatic last year and it was no exception at this year’s WA Designer Collection as part of the Perth Fashion Festival 2009 at Fashion Paramount. Sure, I’ve seen those at STYLEAID 2009. It’s like watching my favourite movies over and over again and I don’t get tired of them. Good thing about the Designer Collection was that models, hair and make up were all different from STYLEAID 2009. And, of course, the venue – Fashion Paramount isn’t Burswood Grand Ballroom. There was some magic created for it was a temporary structure as I mentioned. It’s always tricky to capture that magic when it’s all black but I think I didn’t an okay job.

I later found out that the two pieces above when ‘walk about’ after the show. Thankfully, the festival organisers are reimbursing the designer but no one knows what happened to them. If you see anyone boasting or wearing these you know where they are from. Drama, drama as Alister put it so aptly. Backstage of any show is chaotic no matter how well organised. I don’t want to suggested someone might have ‘pinched’ them. Those who worked backstage I don’t know every one of them but they are hardworking lovely people.

It’s a bit sad though because I saw the corset piece just before it was finished two days before STYLEAID 09 when Alister was having a major drama with black thread – which he couldn’t easily find at the time. He was having all-nighters just to get that collection finished. Out of all the pieces, that corset would be the most wearable piece I thought. Hmm. Alister, being a good sport himself, was okay about the saga but It’s sad that things like this could happen. Mandi Mac I hear had a similar experience during STYLEIAD.
