Meeka Restaurant

Going out on a Saturday night for a grub without a booking made a few days beforehand is a risky proposition. That's only because any good places are usually booked out. Meeka wasn't fully booked so we were able to get a table no problem. Risky did I mention? Yes.

I won't rave about Meeka. It is supposed to be a Middle Eastern restaurant and we did have a mezze plate and tagine as mains. I won't bag the place either. To be fair, my seafood tagine was more than passable and it's not easy to please me with food. My guy and I travelled and ate in many places and we once spent over 450 euros at La Tour D'Argent in Paris. After that experience nothing really surprise us. That said, good grub is good grub whether it's at a fancy place like Ls Tour D'Argent or a food court in the city where a good plate of Thai food only costs less than AUD $10.

The problem with Meeka is that it was missing authenticity. The mezze plate and the tagine were a bit like someone tried to mimic Turkish food after reading a book by say Claudia Roden. I would expect more if I have to pay AUD$30 ~ 40 for a main dish. Also, if I'm paying that much I would like to have something better than a paper serviette. Am I being too picky?

If you haven't tasted anything labelled 'Middle Eastern' before this could be an okay place for a nice night out. After all, night out isn't always about food. The staff was friendly, the decor was okay and as you can see in the photos it was pretty enough. Will I go back there? Probably not.

I cleaned up the tagine dish and I couldn't even fit any dessert afterwards so it couldn't have been that bad.
