WAIFT Claire Loneragan and Jessica Stanton
I already covered a number of young graduate designers from West Australian Institute of Fashion and Textile (SWAN TAFE) in 2008. Did you you know there were more designers though? I didn’t cover them all.
All the good sports who answered my interview questions were covered extensively in Style Discovery. I did my best to be partial regardless of their degree of talent or anything else. That’s what you get being a good sport.
The designers I’m showing you here were ‘not so good sports’ last year because they didn’t respond to my request. That doesn’t make them bad designers though. I can clearly see that they are talented and that’s why I couldn’t just leave them in my folder not showcasing here.

Claire Loneragan’s designs
Some people ask me whether they are talented in their chosen areas seeking some sort of a confirmation and I respond to them like this “Talent can only take you so far”. Being a good sport – passionate, kind hearted and hardworking are the words I use to describe many successful happy people I know. Does it matter whether one is famous or not? In the end, one’s happiness is more important. We all know that fame and money don’t always bring happiness. I believe ‘being a good sport’ is more likely to get you where you want to be.
I do wish them the best of luck in whatever they want to do. Claire and Jessica are talented so I hope they are actually really good sports and missing my request was just an isolated incident.
There were other very talented but ‘not so good sport’ designers and you will soon find out in coming weeks.

January 7, 2009Can’t say I’m wild for Jessica’s designs, but Claire’s creative use of floral motifs is utterly fantastic!

January 7, 2009As an up and coming designer, I would think one would take every opportunity to get your name out there. Apparently, being snotty seems to be more important. They’re both very talented designers though.

January 8, 2009The first collection is beautiful. I don’t think it’s entirely fair that you parade either as being ‘bad sports’ just because they wouldn’t answer your request…I think Claire has more of a gift then some of the other ‘good sport’ designers you showcased and after all it is the clothes that count…

January 8, 2009I loved what you said about passion and happiness. It’s beautiful, actually.
On another note, I think it’s great that you feature lesser known artists and designers. I like originality.

January 20, 2009Hi Songy, thanks for posting the interviews on us – we all appreciate the publicity!
Just letting you know that Claire actuallly flew off to Europe a couple days after the show so she probably hasn’t had much time to go online. I’m sure she didn’t mean to snub you! xx
