Introducing Sugar Hi by Danielle Grossetti (Winner of both RTW and Couture Collection Designer of the Year)

WAIFT Danielle Grossetti
  1. Inspiration – Where did they get the initial couture and RTW concept from?

The inspiration came from graphic wallpaper… in this particular one the colours blended into each other causing somewhat of a tie dye effect and I loved how the colours were so bold yet looked transparent (which makes completely no sense but it did to me) there was also these triangular/spiky frames around it which gave me ideas of shape for some of my garments.

  2. What made you to study fashion? Why at Swan TAFE?

I chose to study fashion at WAIFT because a few family friends had studied there years ago and spoke about how much they loved it… also I wanted to get a well rounded grasp of the fashion industry and I heard that WAIFT taught all areas equally and didn’t just specialize in one area of the industry.

  3. What’s happening now since the show?

Now having graduated I don’t have any committed plans, just trying to keep on learning as much as I can because I feel that a diploma only teaches you so much… would love to work for as many people as I can before starting my own label somewhere down the track…would also love to travel and hopefully work with some of my idols along the way :-)

  4. What’s your long term plan?

Long term plans are pretty much as above…

  5. Do you have a web site or a blog?

    Sorry no website just MySpace:-(

  6. What would you do differently if you have to start all over again?

Although I can’t really change this because it just a matter of location, if I had to start my range all over again the only thing I would think I would change is being able to have more access to different resources…I feel like there is endless possibility to what you can use to create a garment out of and sometimes it’s a matter of “can i actually get that or not?!”…Perth is an awesome place and I’m so proud to be a designer from Perth but our isolation from the rest of the world can sometimes be a little annoying for us creative folk.

  7. Your favorite Australian designer(s)?

Favourite Australian designers…very tough question! obviously loving the more avant garde side of fashion a favourite is definitely Romance Was Born…I also love the styles of Material Boy and Nicholas Morley, it’s too hard to say…anyone with a street edge is good in my book :-)

  8. Your favorite place(s) to shop in Perth?

Favourite places to shop are yes, of course, op shops and my grandmother’s house! Wasteland, Atlas and Harry High Pants are places I like to grab those signature pieces…I feel that it’s not necessarily what you’re wearing but how you wear it and what you mix with it to bring our your personal style…

WAIFT Danielle Grossetti

We had this series of interviews for quiet a while now but every time I read each new one I get inspired by these young designers. Of course, there’s also the added benefit of getting to know funky shops around Perth. Danielle’s work is somewhat more original than others and specially I can tell that the designs are going to appeal to certain bloggers I know. As the MC of the evening pointed out Sugar Hi was the only collection with a male model. That was more than okay for me seeing a cute guy on the run way. :P Good luck, Danielle. No doubt I will get to see more of her creation one way or another.

ok, bright prints are a plus. after all, i have to think that in australia, its summer now. i read the interview, really good.
i dont like collection that much, because its just not working for me. its maybe too hip. but its definetly good for NY scene. what is with myspace, every band/designer/brand has myspace… of course i do feel little bit envy cause she was sourounded with fashion all her life. interesting, you know i actually dint think that australia has such a strong and wide fashion scene. but i can definetly conclude that neither one designer is same (for what i’ve seen on your blog).

very good source of information, songy. its like im reading on line magazine. classy!
