WAIFT 2008 Introducing Dardy Sing by Sara Lyndon
Introducing Dardy Sing by Sara Lyndon

- Inspiration – Where did they get the initial couture and RTW concept from?
The Inspiration for my space and time collection was galaxies , I used the rich colours, depth, dimension and light reflecting qualities seen in space. I hand painted the silks and used lots of beading to portray these qualities.
- What made you to study fashion? Why at Swan TAFE?
I have always been obsessed with clothes, from a young and I would create and alter clothes. I started out studying fine arts at TAFE, which lead me to discover the TAFE fashion course. I chose swan TAFE because I had heard great things from past students and people from industry. The course offers much more technical and production base knowledge than other courses.
- What’s happening now since the show?
I currently work for Morrison and will start my new position with them as production assistant after Christmas. They have kindly let me has a month off so I can de-stress and have a holiday.
- What’s your long term plan?
At some stage I would really love to start up my label Dardy Sing.
- Do you have a web site or a blog?
At this stage I only have a Dardy Sing facebook.
- What would you do differently if you have to start all over again?
Doing this course has been intense, but really rewarding. I love my range and seeing it on the catwalk was amazing , but I will use what I learnt from it to make the next one even better. If I was to start again It would be completely different as I have new Ideas and things I want to try out.
- Your favorite Australian designer(s)?
I love Perks and Mini they are quirky and crazy and I love that. For something more pretty I love Camilla and Marc and Alice McCall.
- Your favorite place(s) to shop in Perth?
Wasteland, Vaga girl, Subway DC and Billy and Rose, since starting my diploma I haven’t had time to find any cool hidden little shops, But now I’m not so busy I’m gonna go explore.

I’m not surprised to find out that she is already working at a fashion company as the winner of ‘Most Consistent Student of the Year Award’. Again, not surprisingly, her interview response was the only one that didn’t need any editing. I’m also excited to find a local brand Morrison. I might have to pay a visit to the head office in Fremantle and say hi to Sara. By the way, will you share your new finds with me, Sara?

December 18, 2008Beautiful colors. I’d love to have a long sleeve shirt, a tunic or a blouse that’s made in this fashion (similar colors, similar fabric… etc) I really like the lack of ‘stiffness’ and how comfortable yet princess-y they look.
And great photographs, Songy, you’re a pro, period.
