Things have changed
I got flashed by a speed camera twice in the same spot this week. I’m an idiot someone called me. I struggled to get my drivers’ license 3 years ago after failing the final driving test 5 times over 5 years (I was out of the country for three). All these years I’ve never got fined for any traffic infringements. This week I got two.
I used to live on rice and noodles. Had to have a big bowl of rice three times a day when I was growing up. When I left Korea, I found my new love, pasta. I cooked and ate pasta as if there was no tomorrow. I stopped stockpiling on rice and noodles when I realised I was turning 30 and becoming like a balloon. I’m now lighter and healthier.
I was madly in love with cookery books until last Christmas. I use to savour all of Nigel Slater’s books day and night including Toast. Now I’m crazy about fashion editorials and blogs.
My guy and I used to drink and smoke and smoke more. He still drinks but doesn’t smoke but I don’t do either. It’s amazing to see characters lighting up cigarettes in every scene in Mad Men. After each episode I feel completely smoked out and in need of fresh air. We’ve certainly come a long way since the ’60s.
My dad used to be unhappy with everything I did as a woman eg. red nail polish and sleeveless tops. Now he treats me as an adult and he is one of my blog readers. Well he doesn’t read English but he certainly does not freak out about my revealing outfits.
I used to spend a fortune on designer labels with no style. Now I buy things that I love with no regards to labels. I look thousand times better than what I used to look with label clad outfits.
I used to dread being in my 30′s. Now I’m glad that I’m no longer in my 20′s searching for answers. I don’t have answers yet but I’m much closer and I have more clarity in life.
Have you changed?

November 13, 2008I have to say that I love my 30′s as well. Such a better and more stable place than my 20′s. I’m also a former smoker. Congrats on quitting!!!
I loved this post. Really great. You’re adorable in both photos

November 13, 2008Love the pictures you posted, especially that one from you were young, love your smile so cute!
Was just thinking about change today too, and yes I have changed a lot, some changes I’ve had probablly aren’t good changes, but there are some areas in which I’ve changed for the better!
It is great to kind of sit back and reflect on the ways we evolve as people!

November 13, 2008I always figured that by the time I turned 21, I would have finished all of my “growing up.” But just like you, Songy, I’ve changed a TON since then … and all for the better. I totally agree – the 30s are where it’s at!

November 13, 2008Well apart from the not smoking – I don’t know why I ever did I haven’t really changed, probably weigh a bit more but then only a little. I do think my party days are behind me as I love a good film and a book more! My love of clothes never wanes.

November 13, 2008Thanks for the bday wishes, beauty! I have changed, too . . . I used to have a love affair with processed carbs, and I no longer eat pasta, bread, or packaged goodies. I have other indulgences like chocolate and wine, but sans carbs I am about 10 pounds lighter!

November 13, 2008Great post, it’s good to get to know a blogger a bit better. I’ve sure changed, a girly toddler then a tomboy as an adolescent, a very girly late teen and now I’m a mix of both! Change is definately good

November 13, 2008Lovely post
Yikes at the speeding tickets! I have yet to get into any driving troubles thankfully, although I’ve barely had my license for a year. And I know what you mean about the rice, in my house we literally have it every day! I always find that buying clothes you love regardless of brand is the best policy, I have no qualms in walking into discount stores with racks of cheap clothing and finding a wonderful piece
And I think I’m not really searching for answers, I’m just trying to be the person I want to be and if I do that, the answers won’t even matter.

November 14, 2008You look adorable in that older picture. In the newer one too, of course. As far as change, I certainly hope I have. I needed a lot of improvement and still do!

November 14, 2008First, let me say that I LOVE that your dad follows your blog. And, yeah, I have changed a lot. Going from 30′s to 40′s, I quit looking outside of myself to learn who I was and started looking in. I am a slow learner and, like Wendy said, I still have some changing to do.
p.s. You 30′s, I think 40′s are even better than 30′s. Something to look forward to.:-)

November 14, 2008^^stole the words right out of my mouth, just wait till you hit 40, it’s great. and what i like to call myself is a late bloomer, which I’ll be till the end, still trying to enjoy figuring it all out.

November 14, 2008I love those two image of you! This is a great post and it’s nice to think about how we all change and stay the same over a period of time.
Apparently the actor in Mad Men dislike all the smoking they have to do – that doesn’t sound like fun!
PS: We’ve given you an E for Excellence blog award!

November 14, 2008Love this post!
Now that I’m in my 30s I no longer go clubbing everyday of the week until 6am, instead, I either have a quiet night in (with or without a DVD), or look forward to hosting or attending dinner parties or dining out (if I’m lucky). I also need to use more concealer under my eyes, have gained 10 kgs (but that’s in the last 18 months), and am more withdrawn (due to several unpleasant occurrences) and not as happy-go-lucky… (am slowly trying to revert that).
Despite all that, I’m glad my 20′s are over

November 14, 2008My trick was redlight cameras. I used to feel superior to Mr H who was a speed camera model until I heard of a Hit and Run in Chatswood where the culprit was running a red light.
I learned it was better to be late, Or leave extra time so I didn’t have to rush. (I do my mascara and eyeliner at the lights)
I have changed a lot. Now I wind down the window and road rage anyone speeding in pedestrian areas.
And I wouldnt go back to being that overweight, unfit self loathing character I was for quids.
Isn’t it great that now we have more wobbles and droopy bits, we have better style and self confidence to get over them. And the sense to look after what we have.

November 14, 2008Something to think about, love it
I changed a lot yes, with the years and things that happened to me.
And I like very much to be in my 40′s.
I think I’m not yet very old and over the years I was able to get more self confidence.
No I have not all my answers (or I wouldn’t be “The Seeker” and wasn’t “Seraching the inner me”) and don’t know if I would have them in this life, but I’m feeling closer.
And you look fantastic in both pictures
xoxo

November 18, 2008I think of my habits and who I was even five years ago & it feels so dramatic. 30 is so much more assured–I feel like I finally have a better understanding of things, and failing that, an acceptance of them. Great, thought-provoking post. & how cool that your dad reads your site!
