Blogging tip - Who's linking to my blog?

You can easily find out which websites and blogs are linking back to your blog. This is no state secret so I thought I should share it with you, non-geek fashion bloggers. There are ways to find out who’s linking your blog and what I’m about to show is by no means the ultimate way but it is my way.

Do I need to tell you how good linking is in the blogshpere? Linking generates traffic (duh) and Technorati, the world biggest blog directory, likes links.  That’s how Technorati’s authority ranking is measured.  Surprised? Well, we all know that Google likes links right? So it’s the same thing. Okay, back to the business. Follow the steps and you will be set in 5 minutes.

1. Do a search in Google blog search: in the search field type ‘link: http://yourblogaddress.blogspot.com’. Obviously, you have to replace the address with your own.

2. Be amazed by the amount of blogs that are linked to yours. Well if you’re new to blogging the list may not be very long but we have to start from somewhere. Note: As you watch the list you will notice that the list might be merely the blogs that have your blog in their blog roll and places where you comment. In other words it’s just an update not a proper mention of the blog in each post. It’s easy enough filter that once you get used to it. I do come across gems such as blog tags even before taggers come and knock on my blog door. 

3. Subscribe to RSS feed of that page – the list of newly linked sites will be delivered to your reader every time.

What do I do with this information? You might ask. Well it’s up to you. You could find out who else is reading/linking your blog. Not all blog readers are commenters. I found quite a few ‘shy’ readers this way.
