Rummaging around my closet
After a barrage of retail experience we do need to take a break sometimes. Enc wrote about it in her ‘Why the ban?’ series.
I needed to look inwards and see what I have in my wardrobe already before I go for another shopping run. My interview with Tina was a good start. Now it’s my turn. This isn’t another ‘it’s all about me post’, asking you to vote but I’m sure one could be partial to a particular look. I’ll name these looks just for fun.
Écru
Emporio Armani jacket which I bought in 1996 hasn’t been worn for years although I got it altered a little to remove the shoulder padding last year. The brooch is from Georgio Armani which I love and wear it all the time. I think it’s a good idea to buy designer jewellery pieces rather than actual clothes. I just get much more use out of them. Trousers: et vous, Paris. Shoes: Target Australia
Cotonnier
Marks & Spencer dress shirt from Hong Kong (2000) which again I don’t wear much although I got it altered last year to make it more fitted to my shape. Pearl necklace layered.. I love wearing them this season. Layered and they are pearls. Every girl should have pearl pieces. The strand is from Thailand and I made the pendant. Well not so much as to ‘make’ but rather I curved a steel pin after putting a pearl bead through.
Soie
Silk vest from Korea (circa 1995)* which I wear very rarely as it’s rather formal. I decided to wear this more often. It’s a definite conversation starter. A. because you can’t buy this anywhere B. it’s a silk vest. People I know or I meet don’t wear a silk vest on a normal day like I do.
What do you have in your wardrobe that you don’t wear? Rummage around and see if you have anything that hasn’t been touched for a long time. Wear them, take pictures of yourself and send them through. Let me feature YOU in this space.
*This vest was actually made in Korea. This is before China took over the world’s garment production.

September 23, 2008You look very elegant and put together! I like the Armani pin, it is a real statement piece.
I don’t really have anything in my wardrobe that I haven’t worn for years, if I don’t wear something for a year it goes!

September 23, 2008Those are all keepers, the top blazer is a classic, it’ll never go out of style, the middle one will probably come and go, so handy to hold on to, and the waistcoat is something special, an expression of your individual style, I think it’s beautiful and you can confidently wear it whether it’s in fashion or not, it simply looks great on you. Love how you paired it with the tailored trousers and the shoes you’re wearing in that pic. I also really like the double layered pearl necklaces…elegant and feminine.
She's Dressing Up
September 23, 2008The Emporio Armani jacket is gorgeous, I love the cut. I really need to rummage through my wardrobe for neglected items too!

September 23, 2008You look sharp in all these outfits that you shopped for in your closet! What’s really cool is that all your things are unique, and unidentifiable.
Jackets really suit you! (get it?) And the vest is superb.
(Thanks for the nice mention, Songy!)

September 24, 2008I love how you’ve put together ensembles that seem to be timeless and at one point nostalgic.
And this post is such a brilliant idea as I also enjoy rummaging through a pile of clothes I hardly wear and put them on for a photo session.
Kudos to you!!!!!

September 25, 2008please sir; I’m really looking forward to getting images from people but I wouldn’t hope for too much eh?
christina lee: thank you. that sounds like a good ideas. blazers are so right at the moment. Feels right. guess it’s one of those trends thing happening?
rivermist: thank you.
post village: thank you again, i never thought I liked tailored pants but they are okay this season.
ambika: great to hear that from a jewellery designer. cheers
wendyb: thank you. your assessment means a great deal.. coming from a vintage style queen.
silje: thank you.. *blush* to hear that from my muse!!
susanna-cole: please do send them along. I’ll be so thrilled! You’re very talented. Trust me.
k.line: thank you. re-tailoring sometimes works but not every time. I suggest that you should selective!
CC: oh my.. thank you! I never heard that before.
glory: please do send me some pictures of you wearing your old but fabulous gear. I’m sure you’d have plenty.
Fashion herald: I’ll have to wear them more often then won’t I?
sal: please unearth as much as send them along. This is going to be so much fun.
the seeker: bring them to the day light is a fab idea. Knowing you i’m sure you will match them with the current pieces and they will all look great.
fashion chalet: glad that i could be of help any time or even in the future.
skye: you noticed it huh? yes that is an unusual piece. I used to cull my clothes as well then I realised I miss them afterwards so I stopped it. Will have to how that works out for me.
Choubelle: thank you. those shoes with the purple pants are actually very shiny. They only works well with bold colours I think.
bronwyn: thank you for your kind words. outfit posts are always tricky.. so many are doing it and I had to be myself… I cannot be one of those gorgeous girls etc.. so it’s great to know that my style does go down well.
She’s dressing up: that’s a very old jacket but it works doesn’t it? Please rummage around and send along some pics!
dana(modana): it is very unusal isn’t it? I tend to go for unsual pieces and make them somewhat usual in my wardrobe. if that makes sense that is?
enc: yes I got it.. it did take a second tho. I’m not that quick witted mind you. i love your comment for that you know that tho right?
I’d mention you in every post if I could but then it will be less intriguing right? so I need to be strategic.
asiancasjuns: are you still rummaging? I’m expecting some great pieces from you.
Kira: thanks kira.
we wear things: great. buttoned up is me alright. yeah i only paid about 8 bucks for them pants! aren’t they great?
savvy mode sg: Cafe Costes is by Costes brothers right? I love their style. I was thinking of doing a post on them actually.
giancinephile: would you like to put an outfit together for me and send some along? that will be heaps of fun.
lavender: yeah.. some of us are in sync. interesting isn’t it?
catherine: that vest is popular. I’m looking for another one.
-h of candid cool: thank you. I love my pearls and I want more now after this.
dapper kid: yes, the pattern. that’s what drove me into buying it in the first place. remembering that I was much younger then.. it was a bit of risk buying something that fancy. now i’m happy that I made that call all that years ago.
taghrid: great. thank you.
giancinephile
