I was surprised to find out that it was the first time in 10 year history of PFF to have WA designer collection shows. As you have witnessed in my recent posts the festival kicked off by major retail brands and continued with more ‘shop’ designs barring the student design show. I would have thought WA designers should drive this festival and each designer deserved to have their own show. I guess it all comes down to a) who has the money and where it goes b) who gets featured during the festival. Regardless, it’s about time we saw some talents in Western Australia and I’m glad that I witnessed the ‘historical’ event.

The venue at the convention centre was designed as though it was a theatre play – seats all at the back and the catwalk in the front. I think that was a big mistake. The lighting wasn’t evenly distributed. People at the back could hardly see the designs. Anyway, it’s only me complaining. Oh, then the models were not able to stop at the place where they were supposed to stop for the photographers. There were murmurs and swear words (including one from myself). I even saw a couple of models tripping over with their steps. Luckily no one fell. The highlight of the show was when suddenly the music stopped playing and there was a moment of silence for about 3 minutes also. There were cheers from the audience to break the silence. Thankfully the sound guys rectified the problem soon enough so that the show could go on. Although there were some mishaps, I did enjoy the shows very much. It was fun being part of the media crew and I met some truly generous and talented people – more on this later.

Here are some of my favourites. Enjoy. Of course, there’s more in my flickr album.
