Day 3 of Perth Fashion Festival 2008- Style Palace Launch
Some *lucky* Fashionistas with a big budget are going to be happy about this. Style Palace is a new online store with some fabulous Australian designer collections. The show was basically a launch party for that website. The site hasn’t been launched yet but they had to have a party and a parade with some famous people around the town. As I don’t know who’s who of Perth or indeed Australia only famous person I spotted was the ever so glamorous Right Honourable the Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi. A bit of mouthful I know. That’s how we call her here.
The venue was a historic Perth city town hall. As it was such a glitzy and glamour kind of show a lot of media wanted to attend and due to the space restriction I couldn’t enter the show as a media delegate. No worries, I paid $45 to buy a ticket which was good for the standing stall. Not that I wanted a seat but I wonder how and what kind of people get to have those seats in fashion shows. The tickets for these seats are not even for sale. It was all very pseudo glamorous. The people, music, what women were wearing, how tall these women were.. everything was rather surreal and I just wanted the show to start. As you can imagine, I was fish out of water.
Knowing that I wasn’t there officially as a media delegate I was conscious of going near the media stand. The show started with a bunch of winged angels and a singer. The lighting was poor and I knew then there was no way I was going to be able to get any decent shots. I hustled and walked out of the crowd of people behind me and quickly walked up to the media podium and jumped up. Luckily, Courtney was there and the familiar face was comforting at that point while I was doing something that I wasn’t allowed to do! The whole parade didn’t last more than say 40 minutes. The models were slightly better looking than the beach and street fashion parade. The music was interesting and obviously they spent a lot more money. I still couldn’t get really good shots from the show due to many reasons. Some of my Beloved Readers suggested that I should get a better camera and maybe an external flash. I will have to consider that for the next festival. It may not be a new gear I need.. probably I will have to learn how to take good photos.
I’m certain that I’ll get to showcase the designers who participated in the show. Some of the names I know and love and some I don’t. I do not feel the need to talk about how Style Palace is going to be a godsend for some. I don’t think it will be but we will have to wait and see.

I really liked the swim suites and burlesque girls. Once again the lack fashion was more of fun for me than anything. Actually the highlight of the day was seeing Batman in the city after the show when we were walking down Hay Street Mall!
